1. Introduction

uLearn ("we", "our", "us") is a language learning application based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect the personal information of users ("you") who access our service through our website and application.

By signing up or using uLearn, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our service.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide the service:

Account information — when you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and a unique identifier from that provider. We do not receive or store your social media passwords.

Content you create — flashcards and collections you create are stored in our database so you can access them across sessions.

Subscription data — if you subscribe, we store your Lemon Squeezy customer ID, subscription ID, plan type (free, pro, premium), and subscription status. We never see or store your payment card details — all payment processing is handled exclusively by Lemon Squeezy.

Session cookie — a single cookie is used to keep you authenticated. We do not use tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies.

3. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely to operate uLearn:

To authenticate you and maintain your session across visits.

To store and retrieve your flashcards and collections.

To manage your subscription plan and enforce access levels.

To provide the AI tools features during your active sessions.

We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties beyond what is described in this policy.

4. Voice & Audio Data

We do not store any audio recordings.

When you speak during an AI tutor session, your voice is streamed in real time to Groq's speech-to-text service (Whisper large-v3). The audio is buffered only in server RAM for the duration of your speech input and is discarded immediately after transcription. No audio is ever written to a database, file system, or any persistent storage.

The AI tutor's spoken responses are generated by OpenAI's text-to-speech service (GPT-4o-mini TTS) and streamed directly to your browser. These audio streams are never stored on our servers.

5. AI Tutor Conversations

Conversation history is never stored on our servers.

The AI tutor is powered by Google Gemini (gemini-2.5-flash). Conversation history is stored temporarily in your browser only, so it can be displayed on screen during your session. Once you close or leave the session, that history is gone. We do not persist any conversation transcripts in our database.

Across all AI features (tutor, card generation, assistant), your profile information — such as your name, native language, and target language — as well as your flashcard content may be sent to Google Gemini as context to improve relevance. This data is transmitted only in-flight during each request and is not retained by us.

6. Third-Party Services

uLearn relies on the following third-party providers. Each processes data under their own privacy policies:

YouTube (IFrame API) Video embedding and playback via the YouTube IFrame Player API

Google Analytics (GA4) Analytics — tracks page views, sessions, and user behavior to improve the app and measure ad performance. Data is sent to Google's servers.

We encourage you to review the privacy policies of these providers. We are not responsible for their data practices.

The Video Analysis feature embeds videos from YouTube using the YouTube IFrame Player API. When a video plays, your browser connects directly to YouTube's servers, which may set cookies and collect data (such as your IP address and playback activity) under Google's own Privacy Policy — uLearn does not receive or store that viewer data. Video metadata (title, channel, duration, view count) is fetched server-side from the YouTube Data API using only publicly available information.

7. Cookies

We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in between visits. This cookie contains no personal information beyond a secure session identifier.

We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or any third-party tracking cookies. You can clear cookies at any time through your browser settings, which will sign you out of uLearn.

8. Data Retention & Account Deletion

Your account data (name, email, flashcards, collections) is retained as long as your account is active.

You can delete your account at any time from the Settings page. Deletion is permanent and immediate — all your flashcards, collections, and account information are removed from our systems and cannot be recovered.

Voice recordings and conversation transcripts are never stored in the first place, so there is nothing to delete for those.

9. Your Rights

Regardless of where you are located, you have the right to:

Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.

Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.

Deletion — permanently delete your account and all associated data from Settings, or by contacting us.

If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you also have rights under the GDPR, including the right to request a copy of your data and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. To request your data, please contact us at the email below.

Argentine users are protected under Ley 25.326 de Protección de Datos Personales.

10. Children's Privacy

uLearn is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with their information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

11. International Data Transfers

uLearn is operated from Buenos Aires, Argentina. By using our service, your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own — including the United States, where our third-party service providers (Google, OpenAI, Groq, Lemon Squeezy) operate.

These transfers occur only as necessary to provide the service. We rely on our third-party providers' own compliance with applicable data protection frameworks for these transfers.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

Continued use of uLearn after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
